This weekend I had the opportunity to rediscover two architectural gems in Barcelona that, despite being so close to home, I had not yet fully explored: the Modernist Precinct of the Hospital de Sant Pau and the interior of the Sagrada Família.
The Modernist Precinct of the Hospital de Sant Pau
The visit to the Hospital de Sant Pau was like entering an open-air museum, where every architectural detail speaks of art and history. I spent a good deal of time taking photos and videos to capture the beauty of this site, considered the largest modernist complex in the world. The bright colors of the tiles, the stained glass windows that filter the light in a unique way, and the intricate mosaics left me fascinated.
This place is not only a testament to the genius of Lluís Domènech i Montaner, but also a space full of human stories. As I walked through these restored pavilions, I thought about how this hospital had been a benchmark in medicine and, at the same time, a living work of art. I highly recommend a visit to understand the impact of this place on the society of its time.
A unique experience at the Sagrada Familia
On the other hand, I finally visited the interior of the Sagrada Familia, and I must say that my expectations were far exceeded. I had always admired this basilica from the outside, but going inside is a completely different experience.
The light that enters through the colored stained glass windows creates a chromatic play that seems to change at every moment, while the columns that rise like trees make you feel part of a sacred forest. The combination of natural elements with Antoni Gaudí's religious symbolism makes every corner of the basilica tell a story. It is clear that it is not simply a building, but a living work that inspires reflection.
Rediscovering what is close to us
These visits have made me realize how often we overlook the wonders that are close to home. We live surrounded by a historical and cultural wealth that often takes a back seat to the daily routine. Looking at Barcelona through the eyes of a tourist again has been refreshing and has allowed me to appreciate even more what we have.
So, if you haven't explored these places yet or haven't visited them in a while, I encourage you to do so. They are experiences that leave a mark and remind us that beauty is often much closer than we think.
