Painting the King of Pop: A Portrait of Michael Jackson

Creating this portrait of Michael Jackson has been a truly special and enriching experience. I wanted to capture not just his image but also his unique aura as the King of Pop, a figure who has left an indelible mark on music history.

Inspiration and AI-Assisted Creation

To begin, I decided to use artificial intelligence as a supporting tool in the initial phase of the process. Using Grok 3, I generated multiple images exploring the idea of Michael Jackson seated on his throne as the King of Pop. This step helped me experiment with different compositions, lighting, and atmospheres until I found the one that best conveyed his majesty and essence.

Painting Technique: Honoring the Old Masters

Once the base image was defined, I transferred it to the canvas using a painting technique inspired by the Old Masters of the Baroque, such as Rembrandt and Velázquez. This technique is distinguished by its masterful use of light and color, creating depth and texture that bring the painting to life.

The process was meticulous and patient, working in three to four successive layers. This method allows for smooth transitions between light and shadow, as well as a rich chromatic depth that is difficult to achieve in a single layer of paint. Each layer requires drying time, making the process longer, but it ensures a more refined and detailed result.

The Final Result: A Pictorial Tribute

One of the aspects I’m most proud of is the treatment of skin tones, achieving a natural warmth and expressiveness. Capturing the subtle nuances and reflections of light on the skin was a fascinating challenge and crucial in bringing the portrait to life.

Throughout the video, I also showcase images of the painting process, allowing viewers to see the evolution of the artwork from the initial sketches to the final details. I’m extremely happy with the result, and I believe it’s a great way to pay tribute to an icon like Michael Jackson.
